Our Top 10 Wines for Summer 2026

Summer is the perfect time to explore lighter, fresher styles — wines that shine in the garden, at the table, or simply on a warm evening with good company. Here at Blanco & Gomez on the King's Road, Chelsea, we've put together our definitive list of ten bottles we'll be reaching for this summer.

1. Albariño, Rías Baixas The ultimate summer white. Albariño from Galicia's Atlantic coast is crisp, aromatic, and bursting with citrus and stone fruit — and it's one of the world's great seafood wines. Chilled to around 8°C with a plate of grilled prawns, it's hard to beat.

2. Provence Rosé No summer list is complete without a pale, dry Provence rosé. Made primarily from Grenache, these wines offer delicate red fruit, mineral freshness, and a versatility that works from aperitif through to dinner. Seek out wines from the Côteaux d'Aix-en-Provence for outstanding quality.

3. Grüner Veltliner, Wachau, Austria Austria's signature white grape produces wines of remarkable freshness and a distinctive white pepper spice that makes them endlessly food-friendly. The Wachau Valley's Smaragd expressions offer genuine complexity at outstanding value.

4. Sancerre Blanc, Loire Valley The benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc elegance — mineral, precise, and with a stony, gunflint character that distinguishes it from anything from the New World. Perfect with goat's cheese, asparagus, or simply on its own.

5. Barossa Valley Rosé, Australia Made from old-vine Grenache in the Barossa, Australian rosés have a warmth and generosity that sets them apart — more body and fruit than Provence, but still fresh and food-friendly. Wonderful with charcuterie and summer salads.

6. Vermentino, Sardinia One of the Mediterranean's great summer whites — aromatic, saline, and with a bitter almond finish that makes it remarkably refreshing. Sardinian Vermentino is one of Italy's most underappreciated wines and one of our personal favourites for summer drinking.

7. Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, Australia For those who prefer red wine in summer, cool-climate Pinot Noir is the answer. Mornington Peninsula produces Pinots of Burgundian elegance — light-bodied, fragrant, and with bright acidity that works beautifully slightly chilled at around 14°C.

8. Vinho Verde, Minho, Portugal Light, slightly sparkling, and with barely 11% alcohol, Vinho Verde is the perfect lunchtime wine — refreshing, low-key, and endlessly drinkable. Seek out single-varietal Alvarinho from Monção e Melgaço for the finest expressions.

9. Blanc de Blancs Champagne For celebrations — and summer always provides them — a blanc de blancs Champagne made entirely from Chardonnay offers the purest, most precise expression of the style. Crisp, citrusy, and perfect with oysters or simply as an aperitif.

10. Dry Amontillado Sherry Perhaps our most surprising summer recommendation — but hear us out. A bone-dry, aged Amontillado served very cold is one of the most refreshing and complex drinks you can pour. Extraordinary with jamón, aged cheeses, or tapas of any kind.
