🍷 Domaine du Coulet, 'No Wine's Land' | France | Côtes du Rhône | Red Wine
Grapes: Syrah
Style: Organic · Biodynamic · Minimal-Intervention
Aptly named, this 100% Syrah is sourced from a limestone plateau between Saint-Joseph and Cornas — a site rejected from the Cornas AOC in 1936 for lacking granite soils. A joyful, expressive wine from seventh-generation vigneron Matthieu Barret.
👁 In the Glass:
Vivid ruby with a bright, youthful hue.
👃 On the Nose:
Perfumed aromas of wild herbs, violets and black cherries.
🍷 On the Palate:
Vibrant notes of black pepper, bramble and olive framed by sappy tannins, with a refreshing, savoury finish and a mineral edge.
🍽 Food Pairing:
Grilled lamb chops, roasted chicken with herbs, mushroom tart, soft goat's cheese.
⏳ Ageing Potential:
Drinking beautifully now; will continue to develop with 3–5 years of careful cellaring.
✨ Why You'll Love It:
The limestone plateau that was famously excluded from Cornas AOC in 1936 is 'No Wine's Land' — Matthieu Barret's tribute to terroir wherever it falls. Aged 11 months in concrete tanks with indigenous yeasts, zero additives, and minimal SO₂, it delivers remarkable purity and freshness. A conversation piece in every glass.
