🍷 Domaine Grégoire Hoppenot, Fleurie 'Indigène' 6x75cl
The entry-point wine from Grégoire Hoppenot — and the first of his wines to receive full organic certification. 'Indigène' is sourced from a blend of young vines at 'Les Roches' and 'Les Garants', two parcels at 300 metres above sea level on south and east-facing slopes, with very light, sandy soil over a granite bedrock that delivers the hallmark freshness and precision of Fleurie. Grégoire — named 'Discovery of the Year' in 2021 by the Revue des Vins de France — ferments exclusively with indigenous yeasts and uses minimal sulphur, letting the land speak for itself.
👁 In the Glass
Ruby red with an inviting clarity — the pure, translucent colour of beautifully managed Gamay from granite soils.
👃 On the Nose
Elegant and immediately appealing — notes of fresh raspberry, cherry and dried rose. The aromatics are bright and expressive, with the cool mineral lift that characterises Fleurie's sandy granite terroir.
🍷 On the Palate
Well-structured with bright red fruit flavours, lifted acidity and polished tannins. Grégoire's 6-day whole-bunch maceration in 60-hectolitre concrete vats achieves a gentle, precise extraction; temperatures are kept below 20°C after pressing to preserve the pure, fresh fruit characters. The 2024 vintage, harvested from September 15th after a fresh summer following a challenging spring, delivers excellent freshness and excellent natural balance.
🍽 Food Pairing
Wonderfully versatile — ideal with charcuterie boards, bistro classics like poulet rôti or steak tartare, chilled with rillettes, or served alongside goat's cheese. Also superb with salmon en croûte, mushroom risotto or light game birds. Works beautifully served slightly chilled on a summer afternoon.
⏳ Ageing Potential
Designed to be enjoyed young for its vibrant freshness, bright acidity and pure fruit character. Drink now through the next 2–3 years to capture the wine at its most joyful and expressive.
✨ Why You'll Love It
'Indigène' is Beaujolais the way it should be — pure, precise and genuinely exciting. From the first organically certified vineyard of an estate that William Kelley (The Wine Advocate) called "one of Beaujolais' most exciting emerging talents", this is Gamay with soul: hand-harvested, fermented with wild yeasts, shaped by extraordinary granite terroir and bottled with minimal intervention. A bottle to share freely and often.
