Robert Oatley Helmsman Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot â Australia 6 x 75cl, the winemaker's art of blending comes to the fore here, with two key red Bordeaux varieties, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, combining to deliver generous red fruits, rounded tannins and a pleasing finish. Fruit for this wine is sourced mainly from Central Ranges area that comprises Cowra, Orange & Mudgee in New South Wales. Traditional red wine vinification is used and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks in order to retain as much fruit flavour profile as possible. Robert Oatley Vineyards is the latest venture of the Oatley family winemaking dynasty, which was founded by the late industry legend Bob Oatley. His legacy continues in his eldest son Sandy, who worked alongside his father for many years and manages the business today. Created in 2006, Robert Oatley Vineyards aims to embody the best that Australia can produce where classic grape varieties are matched to the leading wine regions of Australia. Along with grapes from the family properties, some dating back to 1858, the Oatley family draw upon select growers of excellence across a diverse range of climatic regions. A deep understanding of viticulture enables the team to identify the best vineyard sites in Australia. The talented winemaking team is led by Larry Cherubino â one of Australiaâs most awarded winemakers. His chief winemaking roles have been in McLaren Vale and Margaret River. He has also worked in Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Loire, Tuscany, Sicily, New Zealand and the U.S.A.
